In context to the debt crisis our philosophy when it comes to money and possesion in general is perhaps a bit different.
We never buy things we don't need,because imho more possesion means more responsibilities but also less freedom.Freedom means for us to be free of preasure.Freedom for example of the preasure to buy things we don't want to afford and don't need to impress guys we maybe don't like because they judge others buy their car for instance.We don't care for people with such a attitude towards others.That freed us from running into slavery through wasting a lot of hard earned money for prestige.:)
Therefore we never had financial problems,even in the worst crisis.In the good times back in Germany we saved and invested every month the money others spended on their nice BMW and all that stuff while we drove around with a VW Lupo-nice car for the town and dirtcheap in maintenance.:)This car was around 250€ per month on the bill,gas,vehicle finance rate and insurance included.When we did leave the country i sold the reliable car for a very good price after buying it from VW.A college i worked with spended far more per month on his BMW 530i,but earned the same charge as i did.After two years the new model came out and he gave his "old" one in payment.His loss was 25.000€ because BMW gave him only 50% of what he paid two years ago for a new car!That high is the loss in value on luxury cars in the first two years!
We buy what it needs and sell what we don't need anymore.Our stuff included the motorbike could be packed in once on a pickup and moved to Vietnam by the end of this week for instance-That is freedom.To be free means to be rich!
Yeah, just what I tell myself every time I see a shiny new BMW SUV. I don't want it. I DON'T WANT IT! [sniff] ;-)

ReplyDeleteSuch a nice car just interfered with the intention to retire early.
To save and invest the money my college payed per month for getting from A to B and choose the cheap solution instead made a difference after some years.
When i allways saw his car and realised that he is spending all in all probably 1300-1500€ per month on it i allways thought he is a good payer of my BMW stock gainings.:)
That helped to get over it in that time.:)
By the way,i borowed him the Lupo twice for observations(i was private investigator in Munich in that time)because his one was looking like a unmarked Police car.He asked for that because the BMW blew his cover a few times.:)
